What It Really Took to Make My First YouTube Video
Season 1 - Episode 1
Hi all, thank you so much for joining The Community! I've finally gotten around to setting up this channel email, and I'm excited to see where we go with this new adventure. Always re-invent yourself, right?
A few months ago, I assumed, "Oh it's YouTube, it's online content; how hard could it be?". Boy, was I wrong. After re-filming and editing this pilot episode 4 complete times, I remember how hard and demanding it is to create anything new. I'd wake in the middle of the night, muttering my dreams into the Voice Memo app so I can execute my brilliant idea in my morning (it was just gibberish). I'd spend the whole day filming only to realize the microphone was buzzing and my um's and ah's wouldn't cut together. Manifesting something new takes every neuron of your subconscious as you wrestle with the script, lighting, performance, animations, color, marketing, titles, and every little detail that no one will notice but you.
This is the Artist's Journey.

You must fail countless times to learn and succeed; it is a given. So then the variable in the equation to success lies in the frequency at which you must fail and iterate upon yourself. The faster you do so, the faster you'll grow. Any minuscule amount of "success" I've achieved, I completely attribute to the fact that I've started and failed 4 times by the time the next person finishes thinking of their master plan. Experiment, evaluate, and try again. That is all that is in your control.
I've found so much purpose and joy in the responsibilities of this new adventure, this new game, where, unlike the traditional narrative world, I am able to experiment and tap into my creative subconscious on more a consistent basis. Creating these videos are the definition of permissionless work, and that is the thesis of this show!
If only we could be just as permissionless in our respective crafts... if only we could shape our own destiny outside of other people, companies, film festivals, fellowships, schools, and more. If only we could be happy and rich!
It's not easy, but anyone can do it. This is the first episode to many. The next one will be even bigger, better, and literally worth $1M... and while you're waiting, feel free to reply directly below with video topics/ideas you'd like me to cover in future episodes! Stay tuned, and stay creative.
